It's not enough to make a cup, but still.....it's our first batch!
The first batch of home grown & roasted coffee is done. It is not enough to make even an espresso cup yet, but we will be collecting more beans until we have enough to brew a cup or two.
It seems that the first batch came out all right, we can't taste it yet, but it looks ok and smells good. Perhaps a little too light of a roast, we may try a darker roast on the next batch.
Here is how it goes.....
1. harvest the ripe coffee beans

2. remove the skin off the beans
3. soak in water for 24-48 hours for fermentation
4. sun dry for 5-7 days
5. remove the two skins that cover the bean by hand (although, this is a stage that we may try skipping on the next step batch and see if the air popper can remove the skins as it heats the beans).
Here are the beans dry with skin still on(top), with the first layer of skin removed (middle), and with the second layer removed (bottom)6. roast for 8 minutes in an air popper (next time we will leave them a little longer...
Going for a walk...
