Water Math: Enough Water for an Olympic Sized Pool

So, the rain kept falling. Last 24 hours we collected an extra 12.75". That makes it 26.27" of rain in just 48 hours (plus whatever fell between Friday and Saturday, which we didn't measure but was also in the 10-12" range, but we won't count that for today's purposes).

So, how much water is that?.....well, our lot has an area of 14,693 ft2. Which, if you multiply times the amount of rainfall we've had over the past 48 hours (26.27" or 2.19ft) that gives you a volume of 32,177.67 ft3, or 240,614.08 gallons. That is a flow rate of 83.55 gallons per minute, enough to keep a 2" pipe flowing at capacity......

Still hard to imagine it?

An olympic sized pool is 50 mt (164.02 ft) long, with 10 lanes at 2.5 mt (8.2 ft) wide each, and a minimum depth of 2 mt (6.56 ft). So, the water we collected in 48 hours was enough to fill a 50 mt (a64.02 ft) long pool, with a depth of 2mt (6.56 ft) and 9.11 mt (29.88 ft) wide, enough for 3.65 lanes.......

Or, a 25 mt (82 ft) long pool, 2 mt (6.56 ft) deep, and 18.22 mt (59.76 ft) wide, enough for 7.29 lanes......

And that, seems to be a lot of water......

Oh, and by the way, in case you're wondering.......yes, it is still raining!
