Winter is Here!

The way you can tell is not by the day of the year, or the amount of daylight, and it is not either because the temperature has dropped, nor based on the sun's position with respect to its zenith or any of those other pseudo-scientific ways people in other places use.

No, the way you know winter is in Hilo is this:That is someone surfing on the bayfront! yep, that's it. Only during winter do we get a North swell that makes the waves at bayfront break, and therfore surfable.....very cool too! And even though the wave in the picture is not that impressive, they can get to a very respectable size.

No one. Nonna came close, but we were actually dressed up as Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina.....
