MDA Fundraiser Update: $6,390.00 Raised!

On behalf of Duncan and his family we extend a big MAHALO for your contribution towards the MDA fundraiser.
Here is what Duncan says about it:
Thanks again for your generous donation to my fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in honor of my son Connor who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in February this year.

The total donations received for this event amounted to a huge $6,390.

Half of this amount will be used locally to assist with funding the MDA Summer Camp in Arizona "The Best Week of the Year", where a child with disabilities can just be a child among friends. The MDA Summer Camp (Some 90 are organized across the country each year) is a magical place offering a wide range of activites specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or who use wheelchairs. Activites range from outdoor sports such as swimming, boating, baseball, and horseback riding to less physically demanding programs like arts and crafts and talent shows. Thousands of youngsters attend MDA camps each year at no cost to their families.

The other half will go towards research into Duchenne (DMD) and Becker
(BMD) types of Muscular Dystrophy. These are exciting times for Muscular Dystrophy Research. There is real hope that meaningful treatments - and even cures - are within sight. Meanwhile people with DMD and BMD are leading longer and healthier lives. There are a number of lines of genetic research that are showing great progress: by restoring dystrophin production blocked by premature stop codons; mending broken genes; gene and stem cell therapies; and work with Utrophin that may substitute for Dystrophin.

We're just beginning to learn about the disorder, what it means to families who are dealing with it, and what the future means for Connor as he grows up with it. Supported by the MDA, we will be very happy to forward more information from the MDA if anyone is interested in learning more with us.
