A Wet Wet Wet Week with Nonna & Nonno!

From the day they arrived it has been raining almost non stop. A couple of days there were moments without rain, and some others in which little windows of blue sky could be seen. So, given that the weather in Hilo during the winter can go for weeks like this we decided to go sight seeing rain or not.

Here is a brief summary of the places we have seen:

Puna loop. We started by heading South towards Kapoho, our firs stop was at:

Lava Tree Park.

From Lava Tree we continued on South on Pohoiki Road, until we got to the coast at:

Isaac Hale Park.

surf was a bit rough, yet there were a couple of guys trying to ride 'em. We continued on the

Kapoho-Kalapana Road where we stopped at a couple of places to take pictures of the road and the coast....

Then we made it to Kalapana where the idea was to walk all the way down to the unnamed black sand beach. However, Piero decided, or undecided actually, to jump over a crack in the lava, loss his balance and came tumbling down. The lava, as smoot as it looks in some places, is sharp as broken glass. So Piero took a good hit on his leg, hand and arms. Looking like a battle wounded soldier we decided to end the day there, get him some ice and take him back home to rest.

Dinner at Maluhia Hale

Every night we have been going for dinner to the house that Nonna & Nonno are renting. It is great to come home after working all day on the new house to a warm and delicious home cooked meal! The house they are renting is called Maluhia Hale, it is a beautiful 2-story house in HPP (the same area where the Plum Palace is) with a view to Kaloli Point (coast) and Hilo at night.

Sydney's Birthday

The 10th was Syd's 10th birthday (Goodness Gracious!) she had a lot of presents from her Nana and Aunts in the mainland, as well as from Nonna and Nonno. At night we went out for dinner at a "fancy restaurant" (Seaside).

More Trips

During the week we also visited:

Rainbow Falls

Rainbow falls is in Hilo and it is within walking distance from the new house. The house is coming along fine, we are actually moving all the big furniture today!

this is one of the Banyan trees that keeps an eye on Rainbow Falls.

Botanical Gardens

hard to tell which is the original Tiki....

Nonna & Nonno went on their own on this one, they also went to see Akaka falls.
