A sunny day at the beach that didn't start as such

Eventhough today was a beautiful sunny day and we had plans to go and get immersed in Polynesian culture things didn't start quite as bright.....

A dark cloud covered our living room after Argentina defeated Mexico in overtime in the World Cup (the goal for Argentina in regulation time was actually scored by a Mexican player @#$&*$). It was a good game but, they are eliminated now.

Yes, that is Rodrigo wearing a purple towel on his head watching the infamous game (he wore the towel the entire over time)

Like true Tahitians...

After we managed to pull Rodrigo out of the couch we all went to town, where Charlotte and the girls decided to give it a try into Tahitian dance..... see for yourselves (we think Hana is the only one with any hope )

Surfing at Honoli'i

Honoli'i is The Surfing beach in Hilo. It is a beautiful black sand beach where a river meets the ocean and great waves that suit surfers of all skill levels break not too far from the shore. Besides surfers, boogie boarders and beach goers the beach is also popular amongst sea turtles.

After the Tahitian experience we headed out to Honoli'i so that Rodrigo could try out surfing with the board that came with the Plum Palace (if you are wondering, no, the board is not purple). Since the board is just a 7ft board, it proved to be a bit too much for Rodrigo to handle (beginners use "longboards" which are usually 9ft long), but he almost managed to stand up on it (that's him almost standing up).

While Rodrigo was battling the waves, Hana & Sydney decided to play Robinson Crusoe with some of the local flora.

Then of course, after seeing the kids have so much fun.... well, we had to join in..

And so another day ended....... But to all our friends who are planning on coming to visit:

"We now know where the surfing spots are, so come on over!"
